Spacious Christianity

You are invited to join us in worship, serving and sharing as we strive to create spaces of grace (unconditional love) for all. We strive to make space for everyone and create space for all to be curious explorers. God is spacious, boundless, infinite in joy, love, peace, grace and creativity. God creates each person unique, good and in God’s image. God creates vast diversity and variety. We strive to make space to enjoy God, wonder in God’s creation and appreciate each person.

At North Presbyterian, you will meet people at many different places theologically and spiritually. And we love it that way. We want to be a place where our diversity brings us together and where conversation takes us all deeper in our understanding of God. We call this kind of faith “Spacious Christianity.” We do not ask anyone to sign creeds or statements of belief. The life of faith is about a way of being in the world and a faith that shows itself in love.

Spacious Christianity is a way of wisdom and practice in the footsteps of Jesus. This path is a commitment to the complexity of community, to the paradox of both/and, to transformation of soul, mind and body, and to the flourishing of a just and whole earth. The Jewish and Christian Scriptures are our sacred guide along centuries-old paths that lead us into the universal love of God. Spacious Christianity invites us to tell our stories and welcome questions as we delight in the larger Mystery that draws us into a future that is more than we can ask or imagine, living lives of hope, healing and purpose.

The spiritual path is an ongoing process that spans a lifetime. No matter where we are on our journey there is space to receive and share love. We are all travelers on this human journey, and together, we seek to uncover God’s “love you” notes permeating all. Let us embark on this journey together, embracing the challenges and triumphs that come our way, as we strive to live a life guided by the light of God around us and in us.

Values

Rooted – We are sustained, invigorated and resurrected by God’s marvelous infinite grace (unconditional love). Rooted in love, we are growing in love for all.

Creative – We take risks, experiment, and begin bold adventures. We also fail, learn, change and grow.

Spacious – We offer a welcoming, safe space to be vulnerable, inviting each other to be our whole and authentic selves. We embrace questions and the mystery of faith.

Belonging – We support one another, holding sacred space for life’s joy and pain. We celebrate our differences, delighting in all God’s children. No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

Partners – We encourage each other on our spiritual journeys. We care, cheer and support one another. We also serve outward, build partnerships of mutuality, and collaborate to create opportunities where all can flourish.

What we Believe

We are once reformed, always reforming. We are an evolving, fairness-seeking, equity advocating, compassionate, caring community practicing Spacious Christianity. Questions and doubts are welcome. We celebrate our differences and see them as strengths. God speaks to everyone. Everyone reveals a facet of God’s goodness. Together, sharing, exploring, we experience more of God’s steadfast, everlasting love. We journey with curiosity about God’s story and our place in it. We yearn and work for the flourishing of every person and all creation. Our quest is living the spacious love of Jesus so that all might flourish.
